During the meeting of the Board of Delegates of the Dutch Bar Association (NOvA) on June 25, Maaike Bomers was elected to the General Council. She will begin her role as a board member on July 1, 2024. Background and Experience Mr. M.L.J. Bomers has been a lawyer since 1994 and currently runs her own government and real estate practice in Nijmegen. Until March 2024, she served as the dean of the bar association in the Gelderland district for over five years. During her tenure, she was also the vice-chair of the national deans' council from 2022 to 2023. In addition to her legal practice, Bomers is a board member at Lawyers for Lawyers and a guest lecturer at Radboud University. She has previously been a board member of the Legal Valley foundation and a lecturer for the professional training program for lawyers. Maaike Bomers: "A well-functioning and stable legal profession is essential, especially in today's complex societal context. I strive for a clear understanding of the lawyer's role and the significance of the core values of the legal profession within the legal system. Let's engage in a substantive dialogue about this, both within our profession and beyond." Background and Experience

Mr. M.L.J. Bomers has been a lawyer since 1994 and currently runs her own government and real estate practice in Nijmegen. Until March 2024, she served as the dean of the bar association in the Gelderland district for over five years. During her tenure, she was also the vice-chair of the national deans’ council from 2022 to 2023. In addition to her legal practice, Bomers is a board member at Lawyers for Lawyers and a guest lecturer at Radboud University. Else Loes Pasma and Susan Kaak

Else Loes Pasma will also start as a board member at NOvA on July 1. Concurrently, Susan Kaak will step down from her role. Kaak has been part of the General Council for 5.5 years, serving over a year as acting dean. During her tenure, she championed the renewal of the Professional Training for Lawyers, maintained a healthy financial state for NOvA, worked on future supervision of the legal profession, promoted NOvA’s international efforts, and fostered connections within the bar. The General Council is deeply grateful for her contributions.

About the General Council

The General Council promotes the proper practice of law in the interest of the administration of justice through policy development, information dissemination, preparing regulatory proposals, and fulfilling statutory duties.

As of July 1, 2024, the NOvA board will consist of six members. On September 1, 2024, acting deans Sanne van Oers and Jeroen Soeteman will jointly take over the deanship from outgoing General Dean Robert Crince le Roy. Later this year, the General Council will be further strengthened with one or more new board members.
